Radio Athènes was founded in 2015 by art historian and curator Helena Papadopoulos. It experiments with new models of representation and develops long-term relationships with international and Athens-based emerging and established artists through exhibitions, commissions, and publications. Its primary interest lies in what contemporary artists are making, but there are also flashbacks and eclipses. Parallel to its contemporary programme, it re-examines the work of historical artists who have been largely marginalized or forgotten, making them part of a discursive process.
The programme of exhibitions, screenings, and live events takes place at its HQ in a 1930s building in the historic centre of Athens, but also off-site, in temporary spaces depending on the needs of the artists.
